Imagine the comfort and healing power these afghans can have.

Each one is made with love and healing thoughts to wrap around and protect someone touched by this loathsome disease.

Whether going through treatment, dealing with side effects, facing recurrance or just feeling down... these afghans are always  appreciated by everyone who receives them.

The fact that the afghans are made by people who have walked the same road is encouraging to the recipients, and makes them feel less alone in their battle.

The price of a ball of yarn?   Approx. $3.95  The comfort given by a Comfort Afghan? Absolutely Priceless !!

We do not seek any form of financial aid... only a bit of your time to create as many squares as you like. We would like to wrap as many people as we can with these wonderful afghans.

 

Comfort Afghans

The "Circle Girls" from No Surrender Breast Cancer Help are donating their time to crochet or knit  7" X 9" rectangles. These sections will be gathered and sent to another one of the members who will be assembling and distributing Comfort Afghans to those dealing with breast cancer around the world. Check out our map …. there are 276 members already registered!  

The idea was taken from Warm Up America who collect and assemble afghans and distributes them to the needy, shelters, sick etc. all over America. The beauty of so many different participants is that the afghan resembles a patchwork quilt of many colors and textures, just as the participants and recipients represent the varied faces of breast cancer around the world.

  

 

BASIC CROCHET PATTERNS USED 

Crocheting Patterns
Materials: Worsted-weight acrylic yarns
Gauge: 9 stitches = 2 inches
Finished size: 7" by 9"
.Hook: Size G crochet hook or size necessary to obtain gauge

BASIC SINGLE CROCHET
Chain 30 for the foundation chain.
Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, and in every chain in the foundation row. Chain 1 and turn your work.
Row 2: Working under the 2 top loops of each stitch in the previous row, single crochet across the row. Chain 1 and turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9". Fasten off.

BASIC DOUBLE CROCHET
Chain 27 for the foundation chain.
Row 1: Double crochet in 3rd chain from hook and in each chain of the foundation row. Chain 2 and turn your work.
Row 2: Double crochet in each stitch across the row. Chain 2 and turn. Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 9".
Fasten off.

   

BASIC KNITTING PATTERNS USED

Knitting Patterns Materials:
Worsted-weight acrylic yarns
Gauge: 5 stitches = 1 inch
Finished size: 7" by 9" Needle size: 7 needles or size necessary to obtain gauge

GARTER STITCH
Cast on 35 stitches.
Knit every row until piece measures 9".
Bind off.

STOCKINETTE STITCH
Cast on 35 stitches.
Row 1: Knit all stitches.
Row 2: Purl all stitches.
Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 9".
Bind off.
